Nurlan Zhumaniazov – Stage Director, Honored Worker of Kazakhstan

Nurlan Zhumaniazov was born on August 25, 1958, in the Zhanibek village of the Orda district in the West Kazakhstan region.

From 1978 to 1982, he graduated from the actor’s department at the Almaty State Institute of Theatre and Fine Arts.

In 1982, he began working as an actor at the M. Auezov Kazakh Drama Theatre.

In 1988, he graduated from the stage director’s department of the Almaty State Institute of Theatre and Fine Arts, studying under Professor Azirbayjan Mambetov.

In 1986, Zhumaniazov directed the play The Watchman of Silence by D. Isabekov at the Shymkent Regional Drama Theatre.

From 1987 to 2000, he worked as a director and chief director at the State Radio and Television Broadcasting Complex of Kazakhstan.

In 2000, he was invited by Honored Worker of Kazakhstan A. Mambetov to become a stage director at the Q. Kuanyshbaev Kazakh State Academic Music and Drama Theatre in Astana.

In 2002, at the 10th National Theatre Festival in Petropavlovsk, the production of Scapin’s Scheme by J. Molière won the “Best Male Role” award, and at the International Shabyt Festival, it took first place.

In 2002, at the International Theatre Festival in Shymkent, The Parrot in the Golden Cage by D. Isabekov won the “Grand Prix” and the “Best Director” nomination.

In 2003, he directed The Marriage by N. V. Gogol at the Sh. Kusainov Kazakh Drama Theatre in Kokshetau.

In 2004, he directed Kyz Zhibek by G. Müsirepov and E. Brusilovsky at the Shymkent Regional Drama Theatre for the 70th anniversary of the theatre.

During the XX Republican Festival of Kazakhstan Drama Theatres in Oral, September 16-24, 2012, he participated with the tragedy Akan Seri – Aktoқты by G. Müsirepov, where the actor Tiletkes Meyramov, who portrayed the character Naouan, won the “Best Male Role” award. Director Nurlan Zhumaniazov received the “Qadir Myrzaliyev Special Award”.

In 2015, he participated in the Rahimzhan Otarbayev International Theatre Festival in Atyrau, directing The Shadowless Traveler based on the novella of the same name by Rahimzhan Otarbayev. The production won awards for “Best Director” and “Best Actress” for Aynur Bermukhambetova.
