Akish Omar Konyrtaiuly

Omar Akish Konyrtaiuly worked at the Abai Semey Musical Drama Theater from 1982 to 1985, performing roles such as Akan Seri in G. Musirepov’s “Akan Seri-Akhtoty”, Khojamaz in M. Bajiev’s “Kozhajaz”, Murat in M. Khasenov’s “Why Didn’t Love Awaken”, and Aday in R. Seysenbayev’s “Night Dialog”.

From 1985 to 2003, he passed a competition to join the Mukhtar Auezov State Academic Theater in Almaty.

During his time at the Auezov Theater, he performed in roles such as:

  • Tansyqbaev in Sh. Aitmatov’s “The Long Day is Longer than a Century”
  • The Emperor in K. Goetsy’s “Princess Turandot”
  • George Danden in J.B. Molière’s “The Foolish Head”
  • Murat in E. Amanshaev’s “The Broken Cradle Song”
  • Olar in Gaparov’s “Salty Desert”
  • Sarsen in M. Zhұmabaev’s “Sholpan’s Sin”
  • Karabay in G. Musirepov’s “Kozy Korpesh – Bayan Sulu”
  • The Old Man in W. Shakespeare’s “Taming of the Shrew”, and many others.

In 2003, he moved to the capital city of Nur-Sultan, invited by the M. Gorky Russian Drama Theater, where he worked from 2003 to 2005. During this time, he performed various roles and actively participated in state and city events. At the M. Gorky Russian Drama Theater, he performed in roles such as:

  • Tartuffe in J.B. Molière’s “Tartuffe”
  • Luka Lukich in N. Gogol’s “The Government Inspector”
  • Rasiyav in Ptushkina’s “I Cry Ahead”
  • Luzhin in F.M. Dostoevsky’s “Crime and Punishment”
  • Albert Lamar in Jean-Jacques Bricker’s “Don’t Believe Your Eyes”, and many others.

Since 2005, he has been an actor at the Kalibek Kuanyshbaev State Academic Kazakh Musical Drama Theater, where he continues to perform as a stage master.

In 2007, he played the role of Toytan in the TV series “Ulbike” at the Presidential Cultural Center. He also appeared in several TV series such as:

  • “Intersection” (Toqysqan Tagdyrlardar) as Gabit
  • “Locust” (Shegirtke) as Zhorabek
  • “Emergency” and “Zhas Ulan”
  • “Tamasha”, “Our Street’s Inhabitants”, “Seventy-Seven Days”, “Kopeng Kele Jatyr” (a parody theater), and others.

His film roles include the first domestic TV series on “Khabar”, “Intersection” (Toqysqan Tagdyrlardar) and “Locust” (Shegirtke).

Awards:

  • In 1992, he was awarded the Kazakhstan Youth Union’s Prize for his role in the playwright Ermek Amanshaev’s “The Broken Cradle Song”.
  • In 2001, he received the President of Kazakhstan’s Honorary Letter.
  • In 2002, he was awarded the title “Cultural Worker of Kazakhstan” by the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
  • In 2006, he was recognized for the “Best Male Role” for his performance as Serebryakov in A. Chekhov’s “Uncle Vanya” at the National Festival held in Nur-Sultan.
  • In 2007, he was granted the title “Honored Worker of Kazakhstan”.
  • In September 2010, at the XVIII National Kazakhstan Theaters Festival in Taraz, his performance in the lead role in “The Evening” (directed by Honored Worker of Kazakhstan Bolat Uzakov) won the Grand Prix.
  • In 2016, his performance in the psychological drama “No Sunshine” (written by A. Vallejo, directed by N. Zhumaniyazov) was highly praised by international theater critics at the V International CHELoBEK THEATRE Festival held in Chelyabinsk, Russia.
  • In 2017, at the 45th Anniversary of the S. Kozhamkulov Kazakh Musical Drama Theater in Zhazkazgan, he won the “Best Directorial Work” award at the Zhanat Khadzhiev Regional Theater Festival.
