Kalleki Museum at the Kazakh National Musical Drama Theater named after Kalibek Kuanyshbayev

The Kalleki Museum is a unique cultural space that brings together the history of national theatrical art and the spiritual heritage of the Kazakh people. The museum was officially opened on December 18, 2021, coinciding with the 30th anniversary of the Independence of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the 30th anniversary of the theater itself.

The Kalleki Museum is not merely a place that preserves memories of the past, but a living chronicle of the theater’s history. It houses valuable artifacts, archival materials, and photographs that reflect the lives and artistic achievements of outstanding stage masters. Each exhibit serves as a silent witness to the formation and development of Kazakh theatrical art.

The opening ceremony of the museum became one of the landmark events in the history of Kazakh theater. The ribbon was ceremonially cut by the theater’s first director, Torgauyt Shakhzadin, together with People’s Artist of the USSR and legendary actor Asanali Ashimov. This event symbolized profound respect for national art and culture.

The museum is primarily dedicated to the prominent cultural figures who laid the foundation of the theater, including Zhakyp Omarov, Kadyr Zhetpisbayev, Azerbaijan Mambetov, and Ashirbek Sygay. Every exhibit and archival document reflects their invaluable contribution to the development of theatrical art and inspires respect for culture and creativity.

Today, the museum’s collection contains more than 200 valuable artifacts. These include rare photographs, archival documents, stage costumes and props, as well as personal belongings of renowned artists.

Among the oldest and most valuable exhibits are the stage costumes of Aktokty, specially tailored for Gabit Musrepov’s play “Akan Seri – Aktokty.” The dress, camisole, and traditional headdress embody the artistic aesthetics and national identity of that era.

Another remarkable artifact preserved in the museum is the walking stick of the great Kazakh theater master Kalibek Kuanyshbayev. This item carries deep symbolic significance and reflects the life and artistic legacy of the outstanding actor.

The museum exhibition also features documents related to the opening of the theater, photographs of actors and founders, stage costumes, personal belongings, diplomas, awards, and medals. Old theater programs and tickets further allow visitors to experience the spirit of past eras.

The Kalleki Museum serves as a spiritual bridge connecting the past and the present while preserving cultural heritage for future generations.
