Alibek Kairbek — an artist who performed a Kazakh kui at the foot of Everest!

Alibek Kairbek, a member of the Kazakh National Musical Drama Theater’s folk instrument ensemble and a dombyra player, is an artist who brings the sacred sounds of the dombyra to the world’s highest points. This time, he conquered Island Peak, located at an altitude of 6,189 meters above sea level near the base of Mount Everest.
At the summit, Alibek performed a kui in honor of the 100th anniversary of the great Kazakh composer Nurgisa Tlendiyev, elevating national art to new heights. This performance was dedicated to the late Maralzhan Mirzakulova, the artistic director of the theater’s folk instrument ensemble.
The expedition took place as part of the international project “Dombyra on the Peaks of the World,” founded by Alibek. He states: “The main goal is to bring the sounds of Kazakh kui to the world’s highest points.”
During the journey, Alibek also ascended Kala Patthar (5,644 m). Additionally, he gave small concerts in villages of the Khumbu region, performing the Kazakh dombyra for local residents.
