“ROMEO and JULIET” NAMED “BEST PERFORMANCE”

This is a moment of great pride and honor for the Kalibek Kuanyshbayev Kazakh National Musical Drama Theatre!

The cinema-epic “ROMEO and JULIET”, directed by Ulanbek Bayaliev, was awarded “Best Performance” at the 27th International Theatre Festival “Youth. Theatre. Fest.” held in St. Petersburg.

The prestigious festival, held from May 22 to May 29, brought together theatre companies from around the world. The international platform showcased outstanding examples of contemporary theatre from Kazakhstan, Belarus, Tunisia, Abkhazia, Uzbekistan, Hungary, Brazil, Türkiye, Armenia, and Russia.

As part of the festival, “ROMEO and JULIET”, presented by the Kalibek Kuanyshbayev Kazakh National Musical Drama Theatre, received high praise from both audiences and theatre professionals for its artistic excellence, innovative directorial approach, cinematic language, stage culture, and the powerful performance of its acting ensemble.

Through Ulanbek Bayaliev’s interpretation, William Shakespeare’s timeless masterpiece was reimagined in connection with contemporary social issues, offering international audiences a fresh perspective and a distinctive artistic vision.

Being named “Best Performance” at an international festival featuring some of the finest theatre companies is a remarkable achievement and a clear testament to the dedication of the creative team, their artistic exploration, and the high standard of Kazakh theatre.
