Abai, Year 1890:
“We have lived – good or bad, we don’t know. We’ve fought, argued, wandered – seen it all. Now in the middle of life: we are weary, tired. What we’ve done seems fruitless. All is in vain. So how should we spend the rest of our lives? I don’t know. Lead the people? Herd cattle? Seek knowledge? Live for faith? Raise children?..”
Though the play, based on the great Mukhtar Auezov’s dramaturgy, travels back to the 19th century, the philosophy and thoughts of Abai remain deeply relevant to today’s audience.
The premiere of the play took place on July 3–4, 2009.
