“Bonaparte’s Wedding” is a Kazakh comedy that raises complex questions through humor. It reveals not only the story of a single urban family but also reflects the views of society as a whole, its religious attitudes, and its responsibility toward traditions.
An unexpected “truth” revealed on the eve of the wedding forces the characters to make a choice: outward prestige or inner truth.
The performance sharply and ironically portrays how national values may be neglected, how traditions can lose their meaning and turn into empty formality, and how the issue of language is often left in the background. The desire to appear modern while weakening national foundations is one of the key themes of the play.
The production also criticizes society’s reluctance to face difficult issues directly, the tendency to avoid the truth, and the habit of hiding behind false authority. Humor and reflection unfold together throughout the performance.
This production is not meant simply to make the audience laugh, but to awaken them through laughter.
The premiere took place on March 3–4, 2026.
