Sarybay Berik

Conductor of the Folk Ensemble

Sarybay Berik is a conductor and musician.
He was born on March 1, 1993, in Shymkent, South Kazakhstan Region, Republic of Kazakhstan.
He began his musical education in 2005, enrolling in a children’s music school with a specialization in accordion, and graduated in 2009.
In 2010, he entered the college of the Kazakh National University of Arts, studying in the class of A. F. Burkin. During his studies, he distinguished himself as a capable, goal-oriented, and disciplined student.
Alongside his principal specialization in accordion performance, he actively pursued conducting, demonstrating confident work with orchestras. At the end of his third year, he received an “excellent” grade in the subject Conducting and was recommended by the Subject and Cycle Commission of Composition and Orchestral–Stage Conducting to obtain an additional qualification as Conductor of a
Folk Instruments Orchestra.
In February 2014, upon application, he was invited to participate in the 1st Open Competition of Folk Orchestra Conductors held in Petrozavodsk, Republic of Karelia, Russia (March 17–20, 2014), where he was awarded a diploma.
He has also taken part in a number of national and international competitions and festivals, including:
— The 3rd Nurgisa Tlendiyev Music Festival-Competition “Öz Elim” (Astana, 2015);
— The 2nd Republican Competition named after Bozdak Rzakhanov (Diploma recipient, Aktau, 2016);
— The 1st Republican Competition named after Ryspay Gabdiyev (Diploma laureate, Atyrau, 2016).
In 2014, he entered the Kazakh National University of Arts, Department of Opera and Symphony Conducting, studying in the class of Senior Lecturer E. G. Beisembayev. During his studies, he completed an internship with the university’s student symphony orchestra.
In 2018, after graduating from the university, he was appointed Artistic Director and Chief Conductor of the Symphony Orchestra of the Akmola Regional Philharmonic named after Ukili Ybyrai.
He held this position from 2018 to 2023.
Since 2025, he has served as Conductor of the Kazakh Folk Ensemble at the
Kalibek Kuanyshbayev National Musical and Drama Theatre.
